4 Proven Ways to Promote Events Without Social Media Access

November 01, 20244 min read

Imagine waking up and finding out you no longer have access to your Facebook or Instagram accounts. Your direct line to potential clients and attendees suddenly disappears, just as you’re gearing up for a big event. What would you do? How would you continue to reach people, build excitement, and drive registrations?

Recently, a client of mine experienced this exact scenario. With an event just months away, they lost access to their main social channels. Instead of focusing on what we couldn’t control, we pivoted quickly, relying on creative, offline methods to connect with her audience and promote her event.

In a world where we’re used to digital connections, it can feel unsettling to lose access to our usual platforms. But for those times when social media isn’t an option, consider it an opportunity to explore other impactful avenues. Here are four powerful strategies to help you market your event offline, ensuring your message still reaches the right people.

Below we will discuss 4 strategies that you can use to market your event without social media. For the full list, download our free resource here.

1. Leverage Your Email List

First, lean into your email list, even if it’s small. Create a series of emails that focus on nurturing and connecting with your audience, sharing event details, and offering behind-the-scenes looks to build excitement. Emails can go beyond event details—they can tell the story of why this event matters and what attendees can expect to gain. This is also a great time to personalize your messages to make each email feel like an exclusive invitation. Incorporate videos of yourself so they can hear and see your true excitement about the event. Utilize questions to increase the chance of people replying and do a call out for connection. See who is open to connecting with you one on one so you can build out personal connections one by one.

The Connection call strategy can be time consuming, but very much worth it if you are asking the right questions and getting the right people on the phone.

2. Build Partnerships Within Your Community

Identify organizations, local businesses, and influencers whose mission aligns with your event. Reach out to them for collaboration opportunities, offering to feature them at the event or share some of their content in exchange for promoting your event to their network. When you approach these conversations make sure you are clear on how it's going to be mutually beneficial. Some people are okay with their businesses being promoted, but don't be scared to use money as a way to incentivize people to promote your event.

Affiliate programs do not have to be complicated. It can be as simple as sending a PayPal every time a partner sends someone from their network to purchase a ticket.

3. Cultivating Genuine Connections with Attendees

Consider where your target audience gathers and find ways to meet them there. Flyers, community boards, local cafes, or co-working spaces can all be effective places to post information about your event. Consider creating postcards or printed invitations to distribute in local shops or send directly to contacts. The tangible nature of these materials can make a lasting impression.

Printing materials does not have to be a daunting task. Use local print shops, Vistaprint or other sites to order printed material. This will help you stand out.

4. Word-of-Mouth and Personal Invitations

Don’t underestimate the power of a personal invite. Reach out to your close contacts, invite them to the event, and ask if they’d spread the word to others who might benefit. A personal recommendation goes a long way in building trust, especially for those who value genuine, one-on-one connections. And when people see that you’re reaching out with intentionality, it deepens their connection to your event.

I am the biggest proponent for personal invites. Imagine how you feel when someone personally invites you to an event. Make each invite special by genuinely being excited and grateful for the opportunity to invite them. This authenticity will go a long way.

Conclusion

Whether you have access to social media or not, focusing on personalized and community-centered approaches is invaluable. Each connection, partnership, and invitation builds momentum. By diversifying your promotional methods, you’re creating an event with depth—one that’s not only about filling seats but about making meaningful connections.
